Restoring the West Virginia Courtroom Chamber’s flooring to the original design by Cass Gilbert in the 1920s required extensive care and attention to detail. The new pressed cork flooring by the original Portuguese manufacturer was laid over updated conduit inlaid in the concrete floor. The public entrance to the clerk’s office was updated to make the public entrance consistent with the architecture in the main courtroom and a new counter put in place to block people from private offices.
