Jackson County Armed Forces Reserve Center

Architect: ZMM Architects, Inc.

The Jackson County Armed Forces Reserve Center is a new 350 acre complex consisting of 3 buildings in Millwood, WV. The LEED Silver designed center serves as the readiness and training facility for the combined U.S. Army Reserve of Ripley, WV and the West Virginia National Guard from Spencer, WV as part of the Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC). This unique building is also available for public use. Neighborgall accelerated the construction of the $21.5 million competitively bid project to meet the needs of the owner. Site work entailed 7 acres of extensive earthwork that included creating a retention pond and complex site drainage system requiring tunneling under WV Route 2. Additionally, the site has over 106,000 SF of concrete paving. The fully conditioned main building of 68,000 SF houses offices for the U.S. Army Reserve, the West Virginia National Guard, and recruiting. An expansive hanger sized assembly/drill hall is accented with a 35 foot high glass window wall. Outfitted with acoustical panels and automated bleachers the hall seats almost 2,500. Additionally, troop barracks, locker rooms, restrooms, kitchens, classrooms and learning centers are an integral part of the main building. Also constructed for the center were a storage building and a motor pool maintenance facility for the armed forces.
